LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 20, 2017 (Newswire.com) - When found footage Bigfoot film Half Human was released in North America in February 2016, it came on the back of a strong limited theatrical release in home country Australia where it toured 30 locations for 45 screenings throughout 2015. Known as There's Something In The Pilliga down under, Half Human has been a strong performer in the U.S. especially despite the bevy of Bigfoot films in existence and it shows no signs of slowing down.
"The response has been incredible," said writer, producer and director Dane Millerd of Local Legends Entertainment.
"Black Wolf Media now has the worldwide rights to the film and we are pushing for more territories so this film can be seen across the world.
"It is a horror film shot strictly on one camera and examines the infamous Pilliga Yowie (Bigfoot)."
Starring Brendan Byrne (Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead), Leoni Leaver and Rackett lead singer Rebecca Callander, Half Human is set against the backdrop of the unforgiving Australian outback — a place where not all that wanders is lost.
The story involves two men Jay (Byrne) and Dylan (played by Dane Millerd) as they pick up two girls at a local Australian outback pub on New Year's Eve and then head out to the woods to meet an old hermit friend of Jay's — Hard Up Hermie. When they arrive he isn't there so the boys with dog in tow leave the girls at the car while they look for Hard Up Hermie. Hard Up Hermie doesn't like females; however, this pales in comparison to the real threat and absolute horror that resides within the trees that surround Hermie's humble abode.
With music from Rose Tattoo and G. Wayne Thomas, Half Human is not for the faint of heart and may have some thinking about their next trip to Australia.
"It's not all beer, koalas and skittles down under," said Millerd.
"We actually have some of the most dangerous creatures on Earth and some of the most vast and isolated landscapes.
"Places where any creature with a choice wouldn't be out in the open."
The film has also opened doors for Millerd with Samera Entertainment and Shoreline Entertainment in the U.S. as he strives to get the film seen and also get other projects off the ground.
"Samera especially have been amazing," he said.
"We have a number of films on the table we are working on and they are a great producing partner and fabulous team lead by Sharry Flaherty.
"I couldn't ask for anymore."
The film will also be launched on new platform OzFlix this month — watch this space for more with an official announcement due soon.
"OzFlix have also been supportive — as they are with all Australian productions," Millerd said.
Half Human/ There's Something In The Pilliga is now on DVD and VOD in North America available at all good retail outlets including Walmart. Also online via iTunes, Amazon Online, Hulu and other reputable sites.
